Guest Anonymous
So what is everybody using for their transmissions? Specifically...what stick/standard/manual trannies and how much did you get it for? Fathe and I still planning to a swap and we are wondering whats the price/performance/strength tranny to use. We thinking 400-450HP (EDIT: Im starting to think anything above 300 would be plenty...)would be more then plenty, so we dont need to go too exotic. OTOH- we dont want to be letting the tranny shift for itself either. Unfortunently the JTR book doesn't go into a lot of detail on this subject
Guest Thurem
Your best bet is a T56, do a search in the drivetrain forum and you will be richly rewarded. Thure
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Unfortunently the JTR book doesn't go into a lot of detail on this subject It didnt? I could have sworn that my copy did... At least, I think that is where I learned about the differences in the transmissions. If you are only going to be making between 300-400HP then pretty much any manual transmission that will bolt up will hold up.
Phantom
T56 is a great transmission. I'm running one in my car now along with a 3.70:1 R200 LSD. It will handle the torque/hp you are considering no problem. Allows you to have trememdous accelleration - more than the tires can handle plus will allow really low rpms (think fuel economy and low noise level) at highway speeds. My car can be very stealthy cruising until I downshift from 6th to 3rd and light them up at 60.
