Guest Anonymous
Hey guys, new to the board.... I just wanted to see what you guys thought of a lt1 with a t56 into a 240? From talk to alot of chevy guys the lt1 is the best for this project.. its really low clearence and the water runs through it backwards heads first which gives it alittle more compresion, few other things aswell... and that the T56 is in the same car... and there fairly easy to find because they came out it all the camero's, firebirds etc... I guess this isnt much of a question.. its more a comment.. I just want to make sure i am doing the right thing when i start looking for one of these... the last thing i want is to spend a few grand then find out itsthe wrong choise. Aswell, Is there any books etc that might be able to help me from making some mistakes... I have never swaped a motor before so the more mistakes i avoid the better... thanx Rod
80LS1T
Welcome abord! I am doing the same conversion with my 80' 280ZX. I am using an 93' LT1 and T56 Tranny. From what I hear most people preffer the 94 and up T56 because the 6th gear is .50 instead of .62 in the 93' T56. I would heavily recommend buying the Jaguar That Runs conversion manual and the Chevrolet TPI & TBI Engine Swapping manual. You can get both from www.JTRpublishing.com. Also before everyone else tells you this, you should look up in the past posts for LT1 conversions. They have been done and perfected by many people on this post. Look for Darius's car! He's got an supercharged LT1 that has something like 500+ HP! (don't quote me on that though)(it's deffinently up there though).
Guest Anonymous
Vancouver Island rocks. I am to hoping to put a LT1 and T56 into a 240. But my first step i have to get over though is finding a 240 on the island that has no rust. Then I plan on taking it slow by doing other mods on the car befor the swap.(brakes, suspension, chassis, ect.)While that whole time looking and buying all the parts i need for the swap. Hopefully i will not have to many money problems because im going to be going to Mal-U next year which will set me back a couple thousand. Good luck on your project and if i see a 240 with a lt1 in nanaimo in the future, i will know who it is. Rob
Guest JAMIE T
Hey Rod, It's me Jamie T, AKA Polecat Z on cz28.com. Glad you made it here. Dude, LT1 is the way. Get the above mentioned book (JTR manual) and score you a motor and trans.
Modern Motorsports Ltd
Welcome local bud , that is a GREAT combo and best bang/buck overall buildup decision for a hybridz seeing reasonable miles (ie. going to be used!) IMHO. My father has it in his 240Z and lots of friends own the 4th gen camaro's so I have a lot of respect for the function of the Lt1/T56 combo/engineering. An Island bud's coming over tomorrow and I'll likely be over their before summer's out...drop me a line if you're ever heading over! The Island Z club is quite active with enjoyable events happening with regularity. (I'd type more but it's been a heckuva a crazee week and it's not over yet!)
