Guest ZDreamin
hey i see many people get an aluminum raditor from an 80s v6 camaro or something, my question is i found a radiator from a late 80s iroc will this be the same rad. and how much wieght could i save? does aluminum cool better??? is it worth it over a 76 280 stocker. does it just bolt in or what? right now the straight six is in there and i want to put mild small block power 275-350horse at the crank with a t-5, also will i need to do any mods to the chasis for this kind of horsepower thanks all
Dan Juday
That radiator is probably not the right one. To be the right one out of an F-body it needs to have a core 21" wide (the part with the fins between the tanks). If you can find a V6 full size van that is the same one only with a petcock. Here is a shot of mine with the Taurus fan.
jeromio
Just to ber a redundant turd, there are 2 styles and 4 instances of Camaro radiators, V6 and V8. The latter is too wide in either brass or aluminum. The former, the V6 unit, can be had in either Brass or Al. Actually, there's a 3rd unit that has copper runners and metal (brass?) tanks. I have a cheapo brass finned, plastic tanked rad in my car. The Al one was too $$$ for poor-ass me. To be expeditious, just buy the Al, rad from JTR. Their price is fair. Otherwise, get a V6 camaro/firebird rad from the local parts store.
DavyZ
Get the part # you need (that will take some work, but do a search and you'll be miles ahead) and buy a radiator from: www.radiator.com They should stock a brand new unit that should very well in your car. Again, make sure you have the part number or exact application and you should be good to go at a very very low cost. Davy
Grog
Go to your local junk yard and pull the radiator from a 77-78 Pontiac Grand Prix. The only diference between this radiator and that out of the Camaro V-6 radiator is that it has brass tanks and fins. I got mine for 50 bucks at a junk yard and bolted it in my Z. Plus, they are easier to find and cheaper than the Camaro radiator.
