Guest Fontouk
from: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displaycode?section=veh&group=26001-27000&file=26700-26712 (d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met: (1) The material has a minimum visible light transmittance of 88 percent. (2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard. (3) The material is designed and manufactured to enhance the ability of the existing window glass to block the sun's harmful ultraviolet A rays. I saw the medical exemption too... so all you really need is to find a nice optometerist.. Sun screening devices meeting the requirements of Section 26708.2 installed on the side windows on either side of the vehicle's front seat, if the driver or a passenger in the front seat has in his or her possession a letter or other document signed by a licensed physician and surgeon certifying that the person must be shaded from the sun due to a medical condition, or has in his or her possession a letter or other document signed by a licensed optometrist certifying that the person must be shaded from the sun due to a visual condition. The devices authorized by this paragraph shall not be used during darkness. Looks like 88% is the answer.. Damn lawyers[/url]
Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
As far as I know, all you have to worry about is a fix-it ticket at the most. Additionally, as far as I know, a fix-it ticket is a free warning as long as you get it fixed. I agree that cops are likely to be a little lighter on classics within reason. I have limo black on the back window of my truck (which is illegal) and have been pulled over for other reasons and the cop actually started BSing with me about my plans with the truck . There are a lot of things that most of us could get in trouble for, but probably wont unless we are doing something stupid like 80MPH down back-streets. I know my truck's exhaust sure isnt under the legal dB limit . I plan to have the side windows on my Z lightly tinted, and the rear side windows darkly tinted. I agree that the contrast in the tinting is likely to show that you have a respect for the reason for the law, even though you arent following it. Owen
On this, "(d) Notwithstanding subdivision (a), clear, colorless, and transparent material may be installed, affixed, or applied to the front side windows, located to the immediate left and right of the front seat if the following conditions are met:" The following conditions, does that mean 1 to 5, all inclusive? Or "any of the following"? I'm gonna tint mine no matter what, just want to have the ammunition to argue with if I'm stopped. I like this too, "The devices authorized by this paragraph shall not be used during darkness." Define "darkness" Owen
Guest HBskinheadZ
I had a fix-it ticket written off about 4 years ago for limo tinted side windows that were on the car when I bought it, It costs 10.00 to get the guy out of his chair (Winchels sur charge). at the police station. They changed the law because people like myself could get them signed off. But I guess since some of the officers I know say its frowned upon if they dont have (good Numbers!) they reach their Quota by siting us shadytypes 8). Two hours later they were tinted with a light shade and never had any problems again. I was also pulled over about a year ago for the light tint on my truck windows, when I rolled down the window he asked me to open my door than said (you can go I thought your windows were darker than that), so someones earlier post about not being able to see your face and hands may apply. The futures so bright, I gotta have shade.
Moridin
I swear I remember reading somewhere that you're allowed to have limo tint behind the driver side and passenger side windows. The driver and passenger windows can have no more than a 45% I believe, or basically enough to allow an officer to look into the vehicle. The front window can have a 6" piece across the top. I have limo on my two side rear windows (on the Honda), and have yet to be bothered about it. I'm going to do my rear window on the Civic too, because being the inch lower that I am, I'm blinded by everyone's headlights.
Owen
Speaking of being blinded by headlites, I think I'll go with a mirror-tint on the back...damn SUVs and their HIDs! Owen
