Guest jeff1216
Holley 8007 390 cfm I have this carb on the inline 6 (L28) Carb floods the motor so bad that there is no chance to fire. When I say flood.......i mean dumps raw gas to the point that it flows out the exhaust manifold. 1.....floats are not stuck 2.....I replaced the power valve What da heck could cause this? jonzer12
Fuel Pressure?
Guest jeff1216
That was my thought...............about 2 hours ago I went to NAPA and bought a adj. fuel pressure regulator.........even turned down to 1 psi it still does the same thing
Guest jeff1216
also fuel looks like it comming out of the base carb gasket..........not the one between the intake and carb but the one just above that......that is why I thought fuel press. was to high..................everything is tight on the carb.........I am at a loss on this one
jonzer12
Has it run successfully in the past, did u just get it, is it used? This may sound stupid but if its used and untested make sure nothing is missing! (Friend had problem, carb wasn't fully assembled he just assumed so). Checked the float level? jonzer12
I found this. "Fuel should just barely trickle out of the plugs on the side of the float bowls. If not, the float level can be adjusted on the top of the bowls. Another possible problem is a defective float. If it has a brass float it may have a pinhole that will fill with fuel and cause it to sink. I have even seen some of the plastic style floats that appear normal that were too heavy as if they had absorbed liquid over a period of time" Just another thing to consider, don't think it would account for the amount of fuel you are describing tho. Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
heehee, no wonder you were interested in my SU's. This sounds like that carb may be in bad need of a rebuild. I had a carb on my truck that did that, I finally just replaced it because it was cheaper than the rebuild kit for the carb. There is also a possibility that the float is working correctly, but the part that closes off to stop fuel flow just isnt closing good enough and is allowing the fuel to continue flowing through. The carb could also have been cracked somehow, or someone tried to rebuild it and did not re-assemble it correctly.
grumpyvette
first get a fuel pressure gauge, if the fuel pressure exceeds about 6-7 psi or is lower than about 3psi,most carbs can,t handle the pressure, and will run badly. second fuel pressure regulators don,t normally work well UNLESS they are the BYEPASS style with a return line connection third a bad or jammed needle/seat assembly will cause the problem your discribing as will crap in the gas, get a NEW GOOD FUEL FILTER AND NEEDLE SEAT ASSEMBLY INSTALLED,then adjust your FLOAT levels. read this also http://www.bob2000.com/carb.htm http://www.centuryperformance.com/fuel.asp http://www.centuryperformance.com/vacuum.asp

grumpyvette
did the new carb CURE the problem????
Guest jeff1216
It did until it backfired thru the carb.............................then came the gas. I guess it blew the power valve. The only thing I know to do is tear this car back down and start from the beginning.
