Guest Lee Smith
I have a 80 280ZX AT that I am wanting to try nitrous on. The engine has 148K, but 180# on all cyl. Right now I have it idling at 500 rpm. It does not die when the AT shifted in & running right at all rpm. I know the above is not the right idle rpm, but nobody here at Fort Dodge, Iowa knows what a Zcar is & I am having fun showing what a Zcar will do. Showing what a Zcar will do, is my main reason for wanting nitrous. The 80 ZX AT is not really very quick, but it is impressive, if pushed, to people that do not know what a Zcar is. I had a 78 5-spd that was running right & a 83 T AT. I want more. I was thinking a 75-100 dry shot with the CSV for extra fuel. A modified dry shot. ?? From what I read, other car FI management handles a dry shot. The 280 Zcars FIM is not as good for a dry nitrous shot. ?? Will the AT handle the shift 2ed to 3ed, with a 100 shot? Will the engine handle a 100 shot? When should nitrous be added? So I think that I am looking for a wet kit & info. Thoughts on what I am trying to do & a used wet kit. A list of the parts that should be included, in a wet kit, would be appreciated too. I bought a How To Do Nitrous on eBay this week. Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
You asked this about 2 months ago.. http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=189092 Then again a couple weeks ago, and in a few different forums. Keeping your related questions to one thread will make it easier to find responses. As was suggested before, a wet shot would be the best idea. Check out the responses that you were given in the thread before.
280Zen
You might want to contact Alex Costa, aka "Zcarsmakemyheadhurt" he has done nitrous on Z cars If I remember correctly.
Guest 72datsun240z
i remember while back ZEX nitrous systems came out with nitrous shooting through the air intake .which was done by adding their cone filter on a aftermarket intake and the nitrous line was mixed w/ air
fl327
zcarsmakemyheadhurt will definitely be able to hook you up. Im of the opinion from seeing proof in the form of real life that any L28 engine can be turboed, Ive already seen dynoed 9-1cr flattop engines make 260hp on stock turbo efi and injectors, of course more tuning is involved but it will run and run hard and thus, any L28 can take a good shot of the jiggity juice. Turbo and juice, now youre talking, with an auto, OH BOY. Do it already.
Guest Lee Smith
I won't be going turbo, It is a $200 car. My cost, not what I will sell it for. I now have part of a nitrous set up. 10# bottle Some lines Nitrous & fuel switches Fogging tip I am looking for. Does anybody have? WOT switch Riv limiter, low & high Fuel pressure switch What else do I need for bare bones set up? I will be trying to contact Alex Costa soon. If the AT blows I have a 5-spd waiting. Guest Zcarsmakemyheadhurt
I think the biggest tool your gonna need is a digital or dial timing light. Use this thing to make sure you dont advance more than 22-24 degrees of advance on pump gas. If your catalitic is not empty its gonna be after just a few times on the button, so I suggest a free flow exhaust and cone style airfilter set up. I would also suggest a hi pressure fuel pump a must on a dry system. Lets just get to what is gonna happen after the install is done. Since the engine is strong I don't think you gonna hurt much maybe rings or a cracked pistion if this thing detonates hard. So lets keep that from happening. Your other worry is gonna be the headgasket don't freak if it pops, it wont happen so easy after you replace it with a Fel-Pro. If you set this thing up with a single fogger wet, and spray it 100hp keep it on race fuel 100octain. You can also push the timing a little further up for more power on gas, its a bit of cheap insurance. The tranny, its gonna go. But if you get to race 5-12 times with it you had a good time. Just make sure you test the spray in third gear to keep it from shifting on power, it may help keep it alive (may not). As for your idle, I would bring it up to 950rpm maybe 1150 its gonna make you engine race up a little quicker. If you activate the NOS and the engine is at a dead spot it may back fire threw the intake, not cool. You can buy NOS parts so if you need help piecing together a kit let me know. I got all the part numbers and you can give me a call at work if you need more help or info. Good luck. Alex C
