Guest FordMotherFocus
I just got back from the dyno and pulled 200hp. Im supposed to be pulling around 500hp. This is what Im running: 74? camaro 350 c.i. short block rebuild Including 9.5 flat top pistons Crower solid roller camshaft .567 lift 288 dur Crane gold 1.65 roller rockers Crower solid roller lifters Trick flow pushrods DartII heads 2.05/1.60,springs rated to .700 lift Port matched to intake Brodix HV1 pro bracket intake ported with heads Fluid damper SFI balancer Stock water pump with 160 degree thermo MSD 6al ignition box Holley Street Avenger 770 Summit oil pan and melling pump Billet valve covers / Edelbrock pro-flo Accell 8.8 mm wires/ plugs Sanderson QP1000 Headers Desktop dyno software rates this combo between 464 and 513 horsepower I was wondering if anyone would be interested in checking out my car and helping me find the problem areas. I am very new to this and dont know much yet. I just talked to Myron the guy who built the engine thats in my car, and he said so many things I can check and look at but I already forgot half of them. If any of you guys who knows alot about this stuff could help me out that would be awesome. The potential for my engine to be putting out that much power is there I just need help getting there. First thing I need to do is a compression test. If anyone has a compression guage and would like to help out that would be awesome.
Phantom
I live in SW Arlington which is a bit of a drive from Dallas. Unfortunately I'm strapped for time through the end of next week. Not sure how much help I can be but willing to lend a hand if you're still having problems then.
Scottie-GNZ
Yup, there is definitely something wrong but lets close that disparate gap a little. Hope I am not wrong, but desktop dyno is flywheel HP and the dyno is rwhp. Taking the conservative approach and using the low number and a 17.5% driveline loss, thats about 382+rwhp. You cannot compare the HP results of a dyno with anything else but your car or another car run on the same dyno under the same conditions. Dynos vary depending on the type and one of the popular ones here is town registers numbers about 20% below actual. You definitely need to tune but only use the dyno number to compare the progress you are making, not to compare to desktop dyno or some other car's claims or results from another dyno. Good luck and thats a nice combo so work at it.

labrat
I'm in austin right now, but i'll be heading to mesquite in two weeks with my 81 280 ZX. gonna drop the 350 and a new t-5 in it and maybe paint it if there's time. I'll be at my buddy's house up there, who also has a hybrid Z. He's got a 72 240 with a 327 and ford 9" rear. I'll make a deal with you. You help me drop in my motor, and we'll tune the heck out of your car . I won't promise we'll squeeze all 500 HP out of it, but we can at least give it a good tune up and then go from there. That is, if you can wait two weeks... Bill
Guest zfan
Ford Focus, Hey i live over in Plano, about 20 to 30 minutes from you. Can you drive it over? if so I maybe able to help but I do have some questions for you first. What kind of tranny are you running? If auto you better have a pretty good stall converter. I can run a compression test for you. We can also put a timing light on it and see what kind of timing your running, my guess is you should be between 34 to 38 degrees total, even 40 would not hurt. Thats a big ass cam that will need serious rpm's to get into your peak power band. I noticed you only have 9.5 to one compression that is not alot running that cam. When you put it on the dyno how many pulls did you get? Need to get three or four to get it tuned right. That way you can tweek it between runs. You can feel free to call me at home at 972-422-0858. A bunch of us Hybrid guys are meeting at Kellers drive in saturday night at 7:30 pm, if you would like feel free to come. By the way the guys are pretty good with cars and could probably help you out with alot of Q & A. Im no expert by any means, what I have learned is usually the hard way like so many others. 3 plus years with a v8 Z will do that to you Mike..aka zfan
