Guest 240zxt
I was wondering if any of you paint people could give me the run-down of getting my Z painted. My car is stripped apart and a good deal of it is sanded and primed. I plan on taking it to get painted in peices on a trailer. I would like to get it painted white. I dont want any fancy color or design, just plain white. I also want the paint job to last for about 5 years. Would anyone have a gestimate on how much I can plan on paying for something like this? I'm sure there a factors that play into the price that I am not aware of, so feel free to inform me. Thanks!
denny411
Why do you only want the job to last for 5 yrs? When you buy a NEW car do you expect the paint to only last 5yrs? I reccomend telling whatever body shop that you go to, that you want the car to be BLACK, but you want to see the car after all of the work is done but BEFORE it`s painted. AFTER you see the car and are satisfied with the work, tell them you want it to be white instead. Every bodyman knows that white will hide ALOT of flaws. If they know ahead of time that the car will be white, they will be more lkely to cut corners. Black on the other hand will show EVERY flaw, which will prompt them to do much better work. I`m not a body man, so i really can`t say what the final paint and body work should cost, but you have put a large dent in the total by having everything stripped already. If you really don`t care if the paint lasts only 5 yrs, you could do the body work at home and take it to Maaco and have them shoot it. They frequently run 229.00 specials which might fit the bill for you.
Guest 240zxt
The reason I say 5 years is because I dont want to pay for a paint job that will last 20. In 5 years or less I plan on changing a lot of the car out to fiberglass and adding flares. I thought about macco, but I've heard some pretty bad things. Has anyone here ever gone there? jonzer12
By far the biggest factor in the life expectancy of a paint job is how it is cared for. Keep that in mind. Painting the car is not the expensive part, its the prep work that makes for the huge labour expense. Spend 20 mins on the phone, describe the shape of your car and get estimates. icice9
if your planning on doing all that to your car.. then id advise you to just wait till your finished with your body work and then get it painted... its doesnt make sence to paint it now when you know that in 5 years your going to strip it down again and have it repainted.. id wait till you have the body the way you want it and then think about painting it.. if you paint it now and then 5 years down the road have it repainted again.. your going to end up spending more money to have them strip down the paint job you just had...
