thumperZ
i have 72' 240Z and in the process of a 98 LS1/T56 swap. well my question is can a 99' camaro engine cross-member be cut to fit into a 240Z and if so will it strenghten the frame? has anybody done this or thought about doing it to their Z?" i'm sure it would make the swap easier using the original LS1 motor mounts..you think? this question came up because i know of a guy that is selling a camaro engine cross-member.. i would appreciate some help from you guys... Guest Nic-Rebel450CA
Where there's a welder there's a way! I would imagine that you could notch it so the Z frame-rails could go through it and weld it up in place. I wouldnt try making a bolt-in though. Phantom
I wouldn't recommend that. A lot of work for minimal gain when strengthening can be acomplished other ways with less complexity. Datsun cross member on the bottom is structurally strong enoughfor the V-8 but you will need to strengthen strut tower tops and unibody rails underneath. maichor
I agree. I had the cross member with my motor and opted against it. It is very big and bulky and weighs more than double what my current setup does. Plus, with the amount of fabrication it would take, you are better off making your own.
