Moridin
Get yourself a microfiber towell to wipe the excess wax off. About what temp was the car when you waxed it, and how long did you let the wax sit before you wiped it off? Or, try this: http://www.crystalguard.com Its a glass bead hard coat that goes on really easy.
Guest bastaad525
A friend of mine that used to work for a body/detail place suggested that I have to wax it two or three times for it to come out right, and wash it in between each waxing also... that sound right to you guys? He said that's how they did it at their shop... wash, wax, wash again, wax again, sometimes even a third time before the paint would be mirror smooth... all by hand, no buffer. He said they used 2002 brand wax (I think that's what he said... doesn't sound familiar... said it was a green bottle but NOT Turtle Wax) I tried one of those microfiber towels and it kept leaving lint all over everything. The car was cool when I waxed it, even the hood. The self car wash place is like 2 blocks from my house so it didn't get a chance to warm up during the drive there... I'd say the air temp was low 70's. I let the wax sit for about 3-5 mins before trying to wipe it off. Okay... anyone else with some good suggestions or good results theyve had using wax w/o buffing? What brands work best for hand application? Should I keep pursuing trying to do this by hand or should I take Tims offer and borrow his buffer? Thinking I could do some good damage there
Guest ON3GO
i never wash the car after each coat of wax... really never heard of that.. i always put about 4 coats on by hand and do it where the car is not in the sun, the paint is cold, and dirt free. if those towels leave lint on it, thats ok.. it wall fly off when u drive the car or when wind hits the car. i use that waterless car wash/wax on my dads vette and it does wonders (but its like 30+ bucks for a small bottle) also i used zanos (sp?) (even bigger bucks) on my 300zx and loved it, its made for black paint but it did awesome on my red Z32... i used liquid glass and this cheap stuff i found at autozone on the clearence part. and man does that cheap stuff work good.. so much so that my dad uses it on the vette and its better then any wax he said he ever used. also use those towels ppl are telling you about.. my dad has had his Z06 for about i say 5 months to 6 months, and i must have washed it i dunno about 50 times.. and there ISNT a mark in the paint, not a scratch. he bought this nice shammy and nice soft glove thingy that he washes it with... and it does wonders.. ill see if i can get the wax's name that works real good that i used on my 280Z to make the paint look new. its real cheap, like 3 bucks and its awesome. mike
Moridin
We use this stuff called Carnuba Plus. It's made by a company named Production I think. They sell a clay bar, wax (silicon based instead of teflon - I think), and their anti-static show room conditioner. It works wonders on the Cobra. I usually apply with an applicator pad or terry cloth towell in straight lines. Do not swirl on, as the swirl marks become indefinitely more visible. After a 1-4 min, I take a microfiber towell and remove the excess wax. I have no marks and the car looks pretty darn good. A good clay bar'ing really helps to remove any contamination stuck in the paint (but I'm not sure if it will work well with your paint). Lastly, Production's anti-static show room conditioner helps to get rid of all that lint. It won't want to stick on the car any more. The best results I ever had have come with the Crystal Guard stuff. Works really well. Guest bastaad525
I'm back to wondering, now that I have already put all those swirl marks in there, is that something I'll be able to get rid of by hand, just applying more wax to it or some other product? Moridin
Are you applying the wax in circles or in straight lines with the contours of the body? I've never had any of my microfiber towells lint unless they were sitting with terry cloth towells. They tend to pick up almost anything and everything. Do you have a digital camera that you could take some pictures with to show us? That might help.
