Guest 73TPIZ
After only 100mi on the conversion, I took my 240 to the dragstrip for the first time last weekend and the car was dying at 4k rpm and I was trying to find O/D w/ 300ft left in the 1/4 mile. It still ran a 14.34 @ 91mph which is where I thought I'd be when I had the car 100% so I still left the track pretty stoked. Last week I replaced all the sensors on the 305TPI (TPS,02,IAC,IAT,and coolant sensor) since they all had been sitting w/ the motor for the last 6yrs in the wrecked '86TA. This weekend I went back and my first run was a 13.76 @ 100mph and I ran a best of 13.60 @ 101.2 . Not bad for a peg legging 305 w/ just a mild cam in it. My 60ft times were shamefull at 2.17 so there is room for improvement. Now if I could just get the rearend to hook up. Speaking of which, where is that damn welder?........... take care
Scottie-GNZ
Charles, nice going for such a mild setup. What kind of tires? Street radials I suspect. 2.17 60' is just giving away too much ET at the line. I know I sound like a broken record, but a hybridZ or hi-boost Z needs DRs. That magical 1.80 I keep harping on would have you in the 13.0s with a little practice.
pparaska
Charles, WTG! That's awesome for such a low cost setup! Who says the 305 TPI doesn't move the little Z! Scottie, All, How about the Nitto 555R's instead of the DR's? I hear the 555R's also handle really well - even to the point some people use them on track days. Scottie-GNZ
Pete, 555Rs is Nitto's DR. I got caught in a bad rainstorm last night and I was so concerned about the INCREDIBLY LOUSY 240Z wipers and inside the car fogging up, I completely forgot I was going at a fairly good clip with those tires. Do not try that with BFG DRs. Not only are the wipers SLLOOOWWWW, the 2nd speed stopped working. Guess I will have to resort to Rain-X and RAIN-X Anti-fog. Sorry, this is a tire response, isn't it, but I have to do something for that 1000-mile trip next month. Nothing worse than oncoming headlight glare from a fogged-up 31-yr old windshield Even with the wide 275s, the car was stable in the rain and never once aquaplaned. I did not hit any big puddles but it never felt squirmy.
BLKMGK
555Rs rock! I had them on the Supra and even drove it in the snow with them! In the rain they actually have pretty awesome damned traction, I had no complaints. I'd still urge caution in the rain but they were VERY streetable. My car hooked dead on them, almost too well actually. Go Nitto!
Guest gprix1
If the Nitto 555Rs are on the awesome end of the spectrum the Nitto 450's are at the complete opposite end. What a major POS tire IMO. I ended up with a set for my wifes '96 Mitsubishi Eclipse AWD Turbo because it came free with the rims I bought off of a friend. I kid you not, the stock tires stuck better. And in the rain they are terrible unlike the Kuhmo's on my '96 Talon AWD Turbo which stick almost as good in the rain as in the dry. Anyways, just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone thinks they are getting a similiar tire to the 555Rs going with a 450s; THEY ARE NOT
Guest 73TPIZ
Scottie, I began running low on funds lately so I'm riding on the 205/60's that came on the car so needless to say she don't hook up. But today I got a hold of the R180 with the welder and now the spider gears don't move like they used to. This should help until they break or I can get a R200. Anyway, thanks for the compliments. take care
