Guest 240Z_72
My TH350 doesn't have a modulator on it at the moment, so the seller told me. I'll be danged if I can figure out where it goes. Any body got a photo? Help! Also, I'm not seeing a vacuum line anwhere back here, where should I tap into the vacuum on the motor? It's a 350 with a Performer intake. Thanks. -Kurt
denny411
Are you positive that you`ve got a th350, and not a 200 metric? The metrics didn`t have a modulator. If it is a th350, look on the passenger side towards the rear, just above the pan rail. If you`re not familiar with the 350, it`s easy to get the wrong one. they both have a "notch" off of the right rear corner of the pan. The 200 has less pan bolts and no modulator. Guest 240Z_72
I think i just found it. With no modulator on, it looks like a nickel sized shiny circle. There is a small bracket which probably holds the mod. in place. Is this 'shiny circle' spring loaded so I just push the mod. in? Or is this a plug of some kind that needs to come out? Ok, so now where do I get my vacuum? I'm not exactly sure what you guys mean by 'ported' vacuum vs. the other kind (manifold?) -Kurt
denny411
I`m pretty sure it`s a plug that will have to be removed. The modulator usually connects to manifold at a fitting on the intake, directly behind the carburetor. I personaly use steel brake line for the vacume line, and put no more than 3" of rubber hose at each end.
Guest Anonymous
Pictured below in the black is a buick TH350 the cad plated modulator sticks out like a sore thumb on it. Some I believe had it on the drivers side instead but its about in the same vicinity on those. Guest 240Z_72
Yup, that's exactly where mine is. I found the vacuum outlet on the manifold behind the carb too...only trouble is...I don't think I can remove the plug because the 750 dbl pumper is in the way. Sticks out over the top of the plug. The only place I see any vacuum being used from the manifold feeds the brake booster. Can this be tee'd off? Or, there are a couple vacuum feeds at the front of the carb, one goes to the vacuum advance on the dizzy, the other is capped. Can I use either of those? Guest Anonymous
Yeah any full vacuum source (the one on the Holley that is in the metering block between the fuel bowl and the carb body is ported vacuum and it has a small barb on it you wouldn't want to use that one.) The one at the base of the carb in front can be T'd and used for sure (its probably the capped one, in that case uncap it, hook up the modulator line to it and your done). Good luck with it.
