Mack
well, what should I do? mod 1 would be trying to divert flow out the exhaust port leave the long side with the conventional over hang and chamfer the short side., mod 2 would be cleaning up the port by making the edge near the long side straight and angling the short side back. and mod 3 is what conventional porting wisdom tells me to do, but if I chamfered the edge near the long side, wouldn't it cause the gasses to slam into the wall?? Or am i making a big deal out of something that won't really make that big of a difference anyway? McAdam
Mack
pretty please? anyone? i get my head back from the shop tomorrow and i already had the valves un-shrouded. I need this car together by sunday at the latest. my plan is to port the head, give it back to the machine shop and then pick it up all put back together on friday. slap the head on and take 'er for a spin. Zsane
Don't cut away from the short side, build it up if you mess with it at all, this has to do with equal flow around the head of the valve, a straight port ninety degrees of the valve head will promote even flow around the diameter of the valve and increase flow, once it gets past the valve it will make the turn and exit just fine, the valve is the obstruction you need to deal with. Cutting away at the short side promoted uneven flow around the valve head and will reduce overall flow numbers. I know many may disagree but I feel strong about this from my initial testing and can't wait to proove this on the bench. Anyone with a die grinder can cut away at thier ports, but not everyone can grab the tig and build up areas inside there, I'm talking about reshaping not reducing ports, just don't mess with the short side radius.
