Chaparral2f
I've been looking for an air dam for my z31, but the ones that I've found look like crap. After I finish getting the engine done, and the cowl attached to the hood, I would like to try and make my own. First, Am I out of my mind? Is this something that I should even consider doing? Second, I want to use the pink insulation foam board because it is very dense. (much like myself) Does any one know if this type foam will work, or will it turn to mush when it comes in contact with resin? If it doesn't , what kind of foam should I use? Thanks, joe
blueovalz
The soft, crumbly "wet" foam that I used when I built my fiberglass body is impervious to the resin's effects (from crafts shops). The harder, crispy, more rigid foam will desolve under the resin's influence. What I have done is use 2" masking tape to separate the resin from the "bad" foam, but if the resin does not kick in the normal amount of time, the vapors will soften the foam regardless. With a decent "kick" time, the tape works well. This foam (either type) can be sanded to the shape you want very easily.
Guest Joe17
i used blue insulation foam when i was making my skimboard and it did not melt in any way. but im not sure if the pink stuff is different or what. if you really want to use it then buy some and test a small section of it... im sure it will be fine. -Jo

Guest Joe17
racerx makes a good point, but the epoxy resin that i use comes in cans that squirts out at the desired ratio. so i have not had a problem with misformulated ratios.
