Guest Your Car is Slow
Yea..I did the search and didnt seem to find what im looking for (or I just didnt look close enough) So anywhoo...my 240 is going to be a T*large*/LT1 drag only car...ive removed the dash (going to just use a dashcap with some brackets to hold it up in place where the old dash went)...and all new gauges...ive noticed there are about 93423412098203847 miles of useless wiring behind the dash itself...mostly bulbs and power for the gauges/radio etc...but im sure there are a few feet of "important" wire Anyone have a list of which wires to "not" cut. Or am I stuck all night researching my haynes (please god say no) TIA Brian
Guest BigWhyteDude
well you could just take out all of the wireing and only redo what you need. That way you get every single lenth of wire you wont need:) Andrew
Tim240z
If you are going to use aftermarket gauges, and the car is going to be minimalized, I would highly recommend just yanking out ALL of the OEM wiring and starting from scratch. I did that, and it comes out much cleaner and neater, and most importantly, more logical than the OEM setup. Tim
Guest Your Car is Slow
Thats pretty much the plan as I had now. However Im REALLLLLY not interested in rewiring the taillights and headlights as that crap is already there. Ive removed all the unecessary wires in the engine bay (amazing how few are left)...basically just the two large gauge (relative) red wires going to the headlamps. I just took the dash off and about fell outta the car Not to mention I was yanking alot and didnt label squat as I unclipped things The fusebox is toast...has multiple melted sections so that would have to be replaced. I guess rewiring from scratch is the only way to go! Tim did you ever finish up that diagram you were working on?
Tim240z
Not yet. I am going to pull my dash soon so that I can make the wiring a bit neater. When I do that, I will draw the diagram as I go. Tim
Guest Your Car is Slow
One sorta related topic since we are here Im assuming a full "Dash cap"...covers from the bottom of the dash..all the way to the windshield (well..a few inches short to meet the metal vent cover just shy of the windshield)...I just want to make sure those full plastic "caps" cover the whole top...as im just going to use that shell as my dash (with a few reinforcement brackets ill make). In every picture ive seen...I never see the TOP of the dashcap..merely the front (and it looks good)
Tim240z
It doesn't cover the entire dash. It does go fully forward at the top, just like it's host, but falls short on the sides (by the doors). Tim
Guest Your Car is Slow
Ah..thats no biggie...I can fix that...more room for the cage anyway! I was just worried about the top! Thanks!!!
love-my-V8-280Z
If you study the wireing diagram for a few hours, you will see all the wiring for the tail lights head lights ect are being feed from one main wire. There are 4 out puts. On is just the starting, one is Acc one is "B" and the one that runs the critical stuff is "IG". If you do the studying and look at the fuse block it is pretty easy. I do have a 280Z, so I dont know how much it will match your car. put I would be willing to help if you dont understand me.
