Dan Juday
Dag, welcome to hybrid. Buddy, you got to do a search and some reading. The motor mounts are easily fabbed and you can buy the tranny mount from JTR for $55. Several guys here have done the 280ZX V8 swap and I don't think any of them bought there motor mounts. Just plug in 280ZX into the search function in the Chevy V8 forum and you can get up to speed quickly.
Guest Dag
Thanks, I just picked up 2(ea.) 280xz's from a guy up in Utah who sold me one for $2,100 and threw the other one in for parts but all it needs is the injectors and a alternator, lol, I thought I could just do a V8 swap insteed of spending money trying to fix it. I do want a restore the other one as original as I can, which brings up: Were would I find new interiors? Found a place were they sell dashes but I need all the trim and headliner (mine brown want black) may the Junk yard?. I do have access to getting a 351 Winsor from a 70 Mach 1 stang(he does 11's on it) thru a buddy, just wondring if I should stick w/ a chevy converstion or a ford, which is eZR? I can Fab up the Motor mounts but like every decent American I want to make this as e-z as possible.
80LS1T
Im guessing you found that mouting kit at http://www.zcarparts.com? I bought mine from them(MSA) and they car nice mounts but I think that they are a bit over priced. You could easily make these mounts for about $30 in materials. I didnt use the tranny mount because I have a T56 and not a 700R4. Have a look on my website(click on the "WWW" button at the bottom in my sig) I have pictures of the mounts that they sell. I dont have a pic of the tranny mount that I made though. I should have a pic of it up some time in the near future when I pull the tranny to install a new throw out bearing. Guest Jason
Save your money and make the motor mounts yourself. All you need are two spacers (one under each Chevy motor mount) to lift the V8's oil pan clear of the Datsun steering rack and crossmember. I used a short length of steel tubing with a plate welded to each end. A single hole through the plates allows attachment between the motor mount and the crossmember. I'm not sure what the differences would be if you used a Ford engine. -Jason
jhaag
Here is an incomplete list of places that have Z and ZX parts. The words in quotes are from their web sites. Several of the owners of these places have been very generous with their advice but I haven't dealt with all of them. COZY Z COLE
Welcome onboard!!!! I redid my 80 280ZX 6 months ago and here are some of the places I used. NO.1 was e-bay. Enter NISSAN 280ZX in cars and trucks, parts and accessories, and you will find used and new interior or exterior panels, emblems, dashs ,ect. Some parts, not the right color or faded, can be dyed. NO.2 junk yards. NO.3 local newspaper under cars being parted out. NO.4 Tow companies that pick up cars for law enforcement agencies. NO.5 All Z forums that have a buy and sell section. Hope this helps and one word of advice. If you are doing the complete redo of the interior, pay attention to the order of the removal of the trim pieces, what you take off first is what goes back on last!!!! This will save you alot of headaches. Any questions e-mail me. LARRY

LARRY -Never heard of dying the trims, how would I do this? -Also I can smell the exhaust fumes when im driving down the road, is this a common problem on these 280zxs'? I thought in taking the car down to a muffler shop to see is the pipe is rusted (being from Utah were it snows and they use salt to melt the snow). I will look into getting some parts on Ebay and at the junk yards. I did see a 240sx TB that can be used on the 280zx, the thing is 60mm compared to the 40mm on the stock 280zx non turbo, has any done this here that can suggest that it helps enough to pay 145 bucks the guy wants for it? It does come w/ the adapter, spacer and moded links.
COZY Z COLE
Hi, it seems like the older the Z then there are more things that can cause exhaust fume smells inside of the car. On mine, replacing the rear hatch glass seal fixed the problem. Use the search function here and type in ,fumes, and in the forum use Chevy V8Z Tech Board and read the posts. In search type, dye, and in forum use Body Kits& Paint and read all the links posted in the posts. You mention salted roads so lift the carpets front and back for rust damage in the metal under them, which can be a real problem!!!! Guest wvareb1980
I'm putting a Ford 400M in my 79 280ZX. This is the first car I've ever owned where I've had to do a converstion. Can someone please give me some tips on how to do this converstion right. Also, is the stock rear end ok to use or should I change it? Was looking at putting a 9inch Ford in.
