Guest 4.3L 280z
I got my 75 280z finished today and there is a popping sound coming out of the exhaust at idle and when rpm is kept constant every once in a while and sometimes it does it repededly for a few seconds, it does not do it when revving it up. the valves have been udjusted, checked plugs, checked timing, tuned carb, did a search on the site to but everyone else who has this problem only had it when letting off of the gas. Also I have a 4 barrel 390cfm carb and 3-into 1 header with twice pipes Thanks, Nathan
Guest 4.3L 280z
I also noticed that it doesn't do it a whole lot until it gets hot and it gets worse.
GAZRNR
I had a similar issue on my FI 78Z & had an experienced Z mechanic look at my car for some advice. He clalled it a lean pop and cleaned it up with an adjustment to air flow meter. With a carb you may want to richen it up a bit by backing out the idle adjustment jets on the front of the carb a 1/4 turn each and see it it goes away.
