Guest Nic-Rebel450CA Posted January 19, 2004 Share Posted January 19, 2004 I need some more advice, this time it is not for my Z, but I thought the topic could prove very useful for anyone who has ever had problems with a repair shop, or may in the future. I took my other car out of storage today (my '89 Honda Prelude) because the carb on my truck is getting goofy. I have had my Prelude parked for about 8 months because of a persistant oil leak, and a persistant coolant leak. I got the coolant leak taken care of, and happened upon an idea as to where the oil leak was coming from (suspected the valve cover gasket around an inner part of the gasket hidden by the timing cover). Anyways, I pulled the valve cover off (first time it has been off since it was at the repair shop for a new water pump and timing belt), and I found an unpleasant surprise. One of the guides over the cam, where you insert a pin to hold the cam in place when changing the timing belt, was broken! The little loop that the pin goes through was missing a chunk. Instead of being an "O", I now have a "C". The first thing that I thought of was that they probably forgot to pull the pin out before trying to start the engine and it busted the guide. Now I may very well have the other half of the "O" bouncing around somewhere in the head or the engine block. I know for certain that this was not like this before because I had adjusted the valve lash only about a month before it went into the shop. Anyone ever had a problem like this where a repair shop screwed up and broke something that could potentially cause severe damage to an engine? Where do I start as far as getting them to help? Should I be trying to get them to replace the head since there may be a chunk of metal bouncing around in there? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
johnc Posted January 19, 2004 Share Posted January 19, 2004 I would contact the repair shop and explain what you found. Ask them to replace the broken part and check the head to see if any debris is left. Otherwise, if you drove the car from the repair shop to storage, the debris has probably settled to a place (the pan) where its not hurting anything.
