Guest Your Car is Slow
The ZG flares are the rears only (split the fronts and rears with someone). They are new...never been mounted...been sitting in my closet since I purchased them in the Group Buy we had here a few months back. They arent nearly wide enough for a 12" rim..so they dont do me any good!
waynekarnes
50 is a real good price, i'd have to see if i can find a set for the front, before i can commit. wayne
Guest Your Car is Slow
ToplessZ was the individual from here who I split the front/rears with. I dont know if he still has the fronts or not..but he was also looking to unload them!

Guest JAMIE T
It seams like everyone here over-thinks things. I have two cars with ZG flares on them. They've been on for A LONG TIME. Since the early 80's! Both of mine have cut fender lips and have been welded up. To attach them I simply drilled small holes in the marked spots. I used a small dab fo silly-cone on the tip of the stainless pan head sheet metal screws before screwing them in. Just get'm on and drive IT! Schlasken
is there any differences between the zg flares different shops sell?
fl327
It seams like everyone here over-thinks things. I have two cars with ZG flares on them. They've been on for A LONG TIME. The welting is a nice touch and I will use it if I go ZG, but I figure when it came down to the install, I would measure and make sure flares were in the right spots, bring out the grinder, get to chopping, spot weld a few points if I see a sandwich weld that could come undone or something, drill some holes, bolt on the zg's, and let er rip. I would use small bolts and washers and nuts, and grind off the ends inside the fender if they hit the tire in full lock or something. All the trouble of installing these zg flares and it still looks like you just bolted them on to your car-You might as well bolt them to your car. Just my thoughts. Guest Drewz
Measure twice and cut once. Why the rush. I got 2 feet of snow so I can't drive it so why not make sure its done right? If your going to just go bolt them on than good. I want a particular look and for it to look professionally done and that is the purpose of this posting. If you don't agree thats fine. I have my way and you have your so leave it at that. Guest JAMIE T
HEHE, so touchy . No really, you are correct Drewz. Ive got some stainless allen head sheet metal screws(and washers) I have been putting off using on my '73. IMHO, I would still use a sheet metal type screw If I were you. The factory used them all over the car. As long as you use something stainless steel, it will look great. I'll try to post pics of my '71. Whether you use nutserts, sheetmetal screws, weld nuts to the backside, what ever... The only thing the onlooker will see is a set of bolted on flares. They still only see the head of the bolt or screw. Now, before you get defensive and go on about what the onlooker see's Vs. your own personal gratification of a job well done, you did say you wanted it to "LOOK" professionally done. Any fastener that has the correctly sized head will look "Professional". Welting is a nice touch, my '73 has that. The stuff we're talking about here only REALLY matters at a car show. I don't build show cars anymore. I build cars I can drive in any weather. My '71 has gotten me through many winters and the air dam makes a nice snow plow(semi flat black for easy touch-up). I assure you my car is as nice as any other "driven" car.
Guest Drewz
Actually my big concern is that the head not be so small that it could crack the fiberglass. My veiw/thoughs are that a bolt/screw with a "built in" washer would disperse the force it causes to hold them in place. A durable installation is the concern as well. I have some pretty rough streets here that will cause a lot of shake rattle and roll. Damn clay lake bed soil.... I have bought and am using a torx head metric fastener with fine threads and a built in washer. THey aren't stainless but I am going to have them Anodized for a clean finish the same color as the cars body will be. I will post pics of the install but they and the body won't likely see paint this year. I am not really touchy I just look for construcive criticism or comments is all. Thats what this board is for and that is why I have been on here for the past few years
Guest JAMIE T
Also, maybe some thin foam gasket between the fender and flare. Other than the welting? Racer X is right though, none of the ZG's I have ever mounted sit perfectly flush on the fender. On the last set(my '73) I took much time lining things up and some bolt locations still don't touch while most of the others do(mostly the rears). BTW, the front flare sit in an obvious location if you take alittle while fitting them. They sort sort of find a "groove" to set in. Good Luck Drewz. I thought I was being constructive? Sometimes I don't come across in the best manner, my boss seams to think I'm as suttle as a sledge hammer when I'm making a point. Yesterday he said something about me using a "2X4 between the eyes" method of stating things. Sorry if I offended you.
Guest Drewz
Thanks guys for the tips. That is the stuff I am looking for. No offence taken JamieT. The bad thing about the internet is trying to understand exactly what people mean when they type something.
