BAlford
I have a 1982 280ZX with only 50,000 miles. I sent an e-mail to JTR, asking if the manual that they sell also covered the 1982. They never responded. Does anyone know about putting a 350 into the 1982 will work ? I have been interested in buying one of thed cars that are posted on the "for sale" pages of this list. My car is so much nicer than the older Z's that it would make a very nice conversion if it will work.
Modern Motorsports Ltd
It's certainly possible, a few issues make it a little more involved than a Z IMO. (mainly less room firewall to crossmember to drop a chevy pan down and level) I have a ZX 'old' writeup at this url http://24.179.154.47/jcaudle/V8index.html it's down right now (I don't know why, it's not mine) but is normally up and workin so check back.. after reading that feel free to ask any q's, JTR is still v. good reading, you don't need the setback plates etc but a lot of good info in their. If I don't respond feel free to email directly as I'm not always in and out of here frequently. Their are a few others with V8 ZX's but they're not very forum active. John Haag is one who's around. My steering setup would be different from yours, I have early manual r&p.
Guest Anonymous
Hey, I have a 1980 280zx that I'm currently working to put a V8 in. I ordered v8 mounts from MSA (http://www.zcarparts.com), and I'm expecting them to come in at any time. Supposedly its an easy conversion with those mounts. I had a little trouble because I have a gear assisted power steering box but the mounts are supposed to bypass that problem. MSA claims that the v8 conversion runs better than the original drivetrain, and they've actually redesigned the mounts so they are supposed to be even better. The set comes with a tranny mount also, designed for the TH350 or the R400 (i think on the ladder). It sells for app. $240. Its a bit pricey, but I personally think it will be worth it. ~Brian [This message has been edited by Head (edited October 07, 2000).] [This message has been edited by Head (edited October 07, 2000).]
