Guest bastaad525
Alright I know the majority vote here is against using Fram filters, that they dont work so well. I remember reading a thread a while ago that recommended Wix filters, which I guess can be had from Napa as their own brand Gold filter? Was wondering about some other filters. Anyone know how the pricey Mobil 1 filter stacks up? This is the filter I"m running now. Also, how about these new Premium Fram filters, the ones that come in the sealed can and are touted to be good for 7,000 miles? Are there any other more 'common' brands then the Wix that can be had at Auto Zone? Also, does anyone remember someone suggesting about using the same part # filter as a 5.0 Mustang? Something about it having more capacity?
Guest ZmeFly
But if I remember correctly they use dupont Teflon on there media, if you know Dupont says not to use it in your engine. Ive since truely finding out how shitty the fram actually was have been using a Ford Motorcraft filter and I must say with excellent results. If you see them in the store together just compare the two (fram and motorcraft) and you will see an immediate difference in quality straight away. PETEW
Stay away from Fram no matter what level. They are all junk and have poor build quality. AC Delco is a very good filter and only costs a couple of bucks. Wix are good but like you said not as common. The mobil 1 filter according to him is a very good filter and should be used if money is not an object. The study is a few years old now but good. Here is the link to where a guy was testing oil filters. Fram was the one brand he said to boycott. http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/oil_filter_study/
Guest bastaad525
AC Delco's are good? Being the low price I just kinda lumped them in with the Fram... these are very common... anyone else can confirm if these are good?
Guest ZmeFly
Like I said I found the motorcraft to have the best construction, and media, it also uses a poly type seal instead of the cheap rubber that fram uses. If you sit and just look at them alone side by side you can immediately see the differences, hell my girl could just from looking at one to another. Dan Juday
Trivia: Wix invented the screw-on oil filter.
Guest bastaad525
Motorcraft - where to get them? What part number am I getting or do I just ask for the one for my motor?
johnc
Alright I know the majority vote here is against using Fram filters, that they dont work so well. The Fram HP1 is still one of the best racing filters out there. Its used ALL the time on thousands of race cars across the country. FYI... Since I run a spin on filer (the HP1 won't fit) I run the NAPA Gold 1515R filter on my 240.
