hey,

i found some pretty nice looking, not to mention cheap centerline wheels, and they said it should fit datsun Z cars. they are available in a 17X7 with 4 inch backspace and 17X8 with 5 inch backspace. i was thinking of running the fronts with the 17X7s with 215/45/17 and im not sure what to run in the back. this is why im turning to you guys. what size will fit well (that is if the 8 inch wheel will clear) im not sure what the offset is, they didnt provide that spec but heres a pic.

8" wide with 5 " B/S will fit with Coil overs and no flares. 8" with 4" B/S will fit with no coilovers but will protrude out of the wheel arch a little.

On my 240 with coilovers (10") I have 5.25" of space from the hub mounting surface to the coil.

what do you suggest for some inexspensive coilover setups?

look at modern-motorsports. Also, make sure that CL actually has the rims you want. They are known to not have the rims, even though they are posted on the Wheel Deals page. I would also HIGHLY recommend that you convert to 5 lug. Centerline is fasing out the 4.5 on 4 PCD and they are one of the last companies that make wheels that fit our cars....at least rims that you don't have to mortgage the house for.

I agree with both replies. Centerline actually told me they would have a particular wheel type for at least 2 or 3 weeks. I called them to order the next Monday and they had sold out.

Look at my pic and you'll see Centerline 15x8's with 3.5" backspacing. I have Tokico springs/shocks but not coilovers. The wheels would stick out too much on stock fenders. I have 265's in the rear and they need every bit of the 3" my flares give me to cover them.

I think 225's on a 7" rim are a good fit. 215's certainly work as well. I think 8" wheels could handle most tires from 225-275's.

Ideally, you would want to install the coilover kit, purchase the wheels, and go to a shop that will trial fit a few tire sizes for you. It may cost you a little but it's worth it to see what they look like and to know there will be no rubbing.

Hey Tim,

I have no clue what kit I have. I bought it from one of my clients about 1 year ago. He thinks he bought it in the mid to late 70's for his 240 and thought it was too agressive for him. He thinks he may have got it from Sears or JC Whitney, but he can't recall. I haven't seen anything like it out there yet. It kinda gives the car a SCCA GT type look. My instict tells me that there may have been door skins and a front spoiler to go with it.

I am just now glassing the transition areas and getting it smoothed over. they are riveted and bonded.

I wish I kenw more about them.

That kit was sold by Bob Sharp in the late 70s. It originally came with a hood bulge (looks like a Vett), a front spoiler, and a 930 turbo style tail along with the four fender extensions(flares).Originally it was over 3k cost. I have a 72 that I am restoring which the previous owner purchased the entire kit from Sharp for. Do not have any pictures yet but will post them in the Body forum when I can
