Guest Anonymous
I came across a pretty good deal on a 96' Camaro drivetrain which includes engine and 6speed tranny. I dont know what the engine model code is for it LS1, LT1, etc. but i do know it is fuel injected. I currently have a carburated SBC 350 in my 71' 240z...its connected to a saginaw 4 speed then to an R200 rearend...I just dont know how to a computer-controlled engine to my car that no longer has any electronics except for the lights, windsheild wipers, and fuel pump. Will the 96' mount to where my current SBC chevy is and same for the 96' tranny...i figure since im already running chevy engine and tranny that everything should fit...help me out guys!!! this is my daily driver and my current engine is about to die(camshaft, lifters, pushrods, guideplates, rockers, and rocker studs all need to be replaced). Plus im tired of the 10-14mpg im getting with this 400+hp motor! Also if anybody wants im parting out this motor to help fund my transplant of the 96' motor and tranny in my car...just email me with parts request or make a post...but guys i need yalls help for this new motor. Tim240z
ZCD, The 96 is a LT1 and the motor will bolt up the same as the one you have. The T56 mounting compared to your tranny...I don't know. The electronics is what will give you the most work. You could get a painless wiring kit, or wire it yourself ($$$ vs. Time). You'll need a new fuel pump, and will need to edit the LT1 computer, and change your speedo to electronic or get the conversion kit for the T56 to go mechanical. That's all that I can think of off the top of my head...I'm sure some others will chime in soon. Tim
Guest Anonymous
TIM240, sounds like we have the same things goin in our car...or is everything already in? in that case how would i wire it up considering i dont have any electronics to hook it to except the guages? Tach has been converted to mechanical drive on the tire, i dont think its connected to engine or tranny...guess i just need to know if tranny will bolt up and fit current driveshaft and how to wire the electronics up. You said i need a different fuel pump though? I have a hi-flo in tank fuel pump...i thought thats what is used on fuel injected. just needed a regulator? could you explain a little better? Tim240z
Bob, You will need a pump that provides about 50 psi max. Fi wants pressure not volume whereas a carb likes volume and low pressure. maybe your pump will work, check the specs. As for wiring, you will need to wire the PCM and provide it with power and sensor inputs. Also you will need the diagnostic port (plug) so that you can edit the computer and pull diagnostic codes. You can probably keep your gauges, just pull the sender units from the old engine. The PCM has an output for the tach, but you can likely use what you have. Check the location of your rear mount on the tranny, the T56 mount is same as the TH400, and the 200 4R. The output splines on the T56 are the same as all GM auto trannies (except the TH400), so if your tranny has the same splines as, say a TH350, then depending on the length of your driveshaft, it may work.
