Guest 280ZXT83
Do I have an option as to whether I'm choosing an electric or mechanical fuel pump? Any recommendations/pros/cons/thoughts? I couldn't get the search function to work on the site, and I looked thru 20 pages or so without luck to see if this has been discussed previously, so sorry if this is a duplicate question. Jeff P. Guest greimann
You can keep the stock electric fuel pump, even for a carbureted application, if you use a bypass style fuel pressure regulator such as the Mallory unit from Summit Racing, part #MAA-4309. Guest 280ZXT83
I don't have a "leftover" fuel pump. I built my engine from the block up, so all of the fuel pump strategies" are open to me. I just have to go buy one. While money is always a concern, doing it right is more important. Have you had any success stories with any particular fuel pump (I do prefer holley, but am open to others)? Or when you say "stock" fuel pump, do you mean the fuel pump that was originally on the Z? BAlford
280ZXT83, The original "Z" fuel pump is not on the motor of a Zcar, it should still be up under the body near the front of the gas tank.

labrat
If this is a ZX, you can also just use the stock chevy mechanical pump (or an aftermarket performance mechanical pump, depending on your needs). Since the mounts bolt directly to the frame horns, the setback plates don't interfere with the positioning of the pump on these cars. my $.02 (But how much is that after taxes?) Guest Anonymous
just use a carb fuel pump at any auto store. mine was 20 bucks, works GREAT!
Guest Perry
on my 77 I made a bracket to mount the stock Z fuel pressure regulator to the firwall then plumbed in the supply and return lines and hooked up a $20 holley carb regulator to the high press regulator. With the stock Datsun pump you now have the bypass needed to make it live and take advantage of higher flow that high pressure affords through the smaller hard lines. and it only cost me the $20 regulator and a few fittings.
