Hitman47
I want to turbo my lt1, where does the turbo enter the intake manifold on my lt1? what turbo is the best for top end ? say 3500-4000 rpm and up? Is a turbo very hard to install on an lt1 z? Does someone make a decent booking on turbo charging sbc`s or lt1 specifically. Chad
Guest JAMIE T
Corky Bells book, Maximum Boost is a must have for anyone wanting to learn about turbocharging. Is is in depth and full of information. He is alittle on the conservative side in the book as far as tuning and other misc. stuff. I think it's so folks who have no business turbocharging anything won't blow there motors up trying to do race car stuff on the street. I know of no books specifically about turbocharging LT1's. The compression is too high in stock form to make any real performance improvements. What I mean is, my Z28's LT1 has ported and polished heads, HOT cam kit, and blah, blah done to it... It makes more RWHP than another Z28 with a 6psi powerdyne supercharger and is otherwise stock. Actually, mine makes alot more. This guys supercharged LT1 makes only 295 RWHP. My NA Lt1 makes over 340 RWHP. Now, if that guy decided to build a new engine with low compression forged pistons, better rods, and steel crank, he could easily surpass any NA HP, just by upping the boost to say... 15psi and intercooling it. I know you said Turbo, but 6psi is 6psi. Unless you plan on rebuilding your engine with beefed up internals and low compression pistons, I wouldn't turbo it... love-my-V8-280Z
Jamie, When you had your heads port and polished and added the HoT cam kit, did it mess with the computer any? I would like to do the same mod to my LT1 before I have it installed. But Im already concerned about getting the thing running right with the know how I don't have. do you think I would regreat this upgrade being a newbee at this converion? Thanks Terry
