Front End Sits Higher After V-8 Conversion?

Recommended Posts

The conversion is basically complete except for debugging and fine tuning. I have a 383 sbc and 700R4 tranny in an 83ZX 2+2. The only suspension changes I made were Tokico struts front and rear, and polyurethane bushings.

Problem is the front end seems to sit a little higher after the conversion, which is a surprise since I thought the front end would have gained weight. Anybody else experience this? Should I consider changing out the front springs?

Any experienced help would be appreciated.

My 260 was the same as well since the motor is moved farther back it lightens the front end a bit. All I did was cut a coil off of the front. Later on a parts car I got, I pulled the lowering coils from the front and installed them as I didn't trust the cut coil method with the way I was driving the car.

I initially installed brand new performance springs that were supposed to lower the front a full inch. I installed the springs and the Chevy motor at the same time. After everything was done, my front end sat higher too. It was a combination of two things. 1) As already stated, the small amount of extra weight added is offset by the entire mass being back farther and 2) the stock springs, over the previous 30 years, had sagged so much that the new "lowering" springs actually made it sit higher than the sagged ones I was used to looking at.
