Moridin
What does everyone think about Trick Flow heads for a 350? I know I'm asking a lot of low level questions, but I like opinions. I've almost got the car paid off, now its on to getting it ready for the engine conversion. Anyway, thanks for everyone's help so far. I really appreciate it. grumpyvette
the newer 23deg trickflow heads work fine on the street, the ® series works better for racing, and if your really serious a set of ported AFR or DART heads work even better(at a big increase in price) Im useing a set of the trickflow twisted wedge heads (ported) on my vette now
Guest greimann
Hey Grumpy, I have the Twisted wedge heads too. Bought them when they first hit the market. Do you have any idea why they discontinued them? Reliability problems due to funky valve angle? I know I have had to replace my valve guides with magnese-bronze a few years ago. dsommer
All I can say is that the price is right and they look good on my 350 full roller, wish I knew how they performed, all in due time... David
grumpyvette
Greimann your correct they (trickflow twisted wedge heads) were discontinued because they got a bad name because TRICKFLOW was STUPID and used cheap valve guides in the early heads(G1) (VERY EASY TO FIX) they opened the ports up and put better valve guides in the second version(G2) but the marketing damage was already done so they started makeing the heads more standard (23 deg) so they sold better, its really a shame because there was nothing wrong with the design that top quality parts would not fix (both the 429- 460 ford and 396-502 chevy use twisted wedge designs)and they work fine! Guest zfan
Well I don't run them but two friends of mine do and both are very happy with them. Can't beat the price either. Mike
jt1
I've got a set of the early Twisted wedge heads on my car. I've always been pleased with the performance, but I had to replace the cast iron valve guides with bronze ones after the cast ones wore quickly. It's a little work to get the valve geometry right, had to use different lenght pushrods on the intake and exhaust, and spent a lot of time playing with the lenghts of the pushrods. Comp makes a special roller rocker for the TW heads in their pro magnum line.
Moridin
Thanks for all your help guys. I'm really thinking about them for the 350. Only problem is, Jesel doesn't make their valve train setup for them. I looked @ this database of setups of the web and almost always the Trickflow setups were making more power. I'm very interested in the Jesel, because it offers non-hydraulic full roller without the need to adjust backlash all the time (or so I've heard). Anyways, thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it.
