Guest ON3GO
well wanna say thanks to Myron and Matt for giving me all these free parts. i had a blast today taking apart the motor. its a N42 block, and a N47 head. the cam was pretty beat up, valve springs and etc prob all need to be replaced but thats cool. im gonna just take it apart to study all of it and have some fun. maybe use this for a future project or something. gonna fool around with the 5-speed and 4-speed tomorow and gonna start playing around with the motor some more. also what would a N42 with a N47 head be best used for? i know its nothing special but would it benifit from say tripple carbs or what.. mike
olie05
The N47 head is the same as an N42 head minus exhaust inserts to lower emissions... The N42 head Is preffered by many as a good performance head, so I say if you just port the exhaust ports to loose the inserts, it should perform as good or better than an n42 head. Also, If you put flat top pistons in the n42 block with an N47 or N42 head you get a N/A friendly compression ratio of 10.03:1, which is exactly what I'm doing with my engine. (taking apart engines sure is fun ) for more info you should read this page: http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/head.htm He mentions something about cracks in the N47 head's exhaust seats. You should prob. check it out. Have fun!
johnc
so I say if you just port the exhaust ports to loose the inserts I know 3 people who tried to remove the exhaust liners and swear they will never, ever, not in a million years for a million dollars, try to do that again. If you want an N42 head, buy an N42 head.
Guest Jason92Classic
Hey, I'm new here -- my sister just gave me her '81 ZX and I'm going to be doing the same thing soon -- sounds like fun!
