my brother just bought an 89 GTU Rx-7. Right now he is looking at upgrading the exhaust. So far everything he has read points him to a cat back exhaust system (running around $600 for parts alone)

Anyone used something else and have good things to say about them?

this post is a bit off topic no? anyway, I've never heard of anything but true cat-back exhaust systems giving any kind of real performance gain. The alternatives are a muffler, or a muffler tip, but all those do is change the exhaust note of the car.

im getting my 87 rx7 GXL on saturday but i have heard that running straight pipes to some good muffles give a little performace gain and is fairly cheap (around $300) also check out apexi's N1 exaust system

Please dont wast your money on a $600 dollar system A good exhaust that will live in the firey hell of a hard running rotory check out the systems for sale at www.mazdatrix.com and www.racingbeat.com but first you will have to answer a few serious q's How loud can I live with? Will I need to pass emissions. is this a STREET car or a RACE car? A good full length exhaust will run about $1200 but will really wake the car up I have been dealing with racing beat for a long time and have had NOTHING but positive expereinces with them when I went to MSA in 2001 I stopped by there shop they were FIRST RATE gave me a full tour of the R&D center and answered a TON of tech questions Keith
