Guest jjohart
Hi, at the risk of pointing out a auction on an item I might have otherwise bid on...the seller of the Ebay item never returned my inquiry as to whether the knock offs (he calls them 'spinners') came stock with the wheels or were bought and made to fit/labeled, etc. Would anyone know if similar knock-offs can be bought somewhere these days? I already have a set of 14" mesh wheels, pretty simiar to these, bit they came with "ET" caps... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43954&item=2473395588&rd=1 The fact that the seller didn't reply makes me think someome put them together, but he soesn't want to say that! dot
I did a quick google. http://www.cragar.com/truspoke.html Mine are the Chrome Star Wire Spinner
TomoHawk
Dot-- What did you search for(keywords)? It is possible to make those spinners.. I'm using some 280ZX wheels, and I took the clip-thing that holds the center cap and make a plate that screws on, then apply some decals. You could do the same, then bolt a spinner to that. Maybe spin-balance to make sure it won't fly off. Don't you want 5 of those any way?
dot
I searched for spinners and knockoffs …wheels. Most spinners are easily adaptable. It’s just a matter of centering them. The whirly part is held on by ¼ inch bolt and a large washer. Very low tech. The ones I like are the ones found on the Cobras. $400+
Guest jjohart
WHOA...Cobra, as in A/C Cars, UK....I had originally fantasized about buying those wheels, which I found in like form from Compomotive.co.uk http://www.comp.co.uk/popups/hb.htm Wow, those are 1,700USD for a set of four! Back to the point, can someone tell me what the standard 14" center hole opening is, so I can start looking.....seems to me the pictures in previous replies to this post are a bit wide, made for Prime/Eagle wheel center diameters! It would be a nice touch! Thanks John
SpeedRacer
I think they are "spinners" if that's all they really do.... spin as the wheel goes around. They are "Knock-Offs" if they really hold the wheel on the car like the Cobra example or mine http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=236622 They come with a heavy lead hammer for installation. BTW, my knock-off wire wheels are from Dayton Wheel http://www.daytonwheel.com/home.htm
Guest jjohart
Hold on Speed, Racer XY calling with a male chromosome/impotence issue...are you telling me these items actually HOLD THE WHEEL ONTO THE CAR?!!!!? It seems to me a lot of the previous posts are showing items which are total bling-bling in that respect, that they are nothing more than eye-candy, except for various exceptions, see under Ferrari/Borrani. Theo point I was after, if there is one, is I wanted the best of the "fake", as in the E bay seller, who seems to be getting a bit more money for having affixed non-weight bearing knock-offs, erroneously-thanks for clarifying-calling them "spinners", apparently to get a few more Urban-Chic mega-dollar bling upgraders to find it in their search parameters, rather than our supposedly more "classy" standards, i.e "knock-offs". BTW, in UK and therabouts, I find it funny they call them "knock-ons"...hmmm, must be that left-right thingy!!!?!" Cheers John
TomoHawk
The knock-offs are actually like really big wing-nuts to hold the wheels onto a threaded shaft that sticks out out the axles. What you are trying to do is to make a 'decoration' that looks like a knock-off. The bore on the ZX wheels is about 75 mm.
