Guest iskone
I've read on one of the threads that you can't use a Harmonic balancer with a 383 LT1, is this true? They said it wouold hit the steering rack. I called a machine shop and they told me the only way to do it without a balancer is to add heavy metal. I hopw I missed something. What does it take to build and put a 383 LT1 in my 78 280Z. Forgive me if I'm asking somthing I should already know.
dmyntti
I think the best option is to get a 383 rotating assembly that is internally balanced. You have to make sure the the crank you get is for a one piece rear main seal block.
Guest iskone
Thats what I thought but I am confused now. Internaly balnced means no harmonic balancer right? I found a shop here in washington to balance my assembly for $180 and plan on buying kit 383sk from http://www.enginekits.com I want to upgrade to coated pistons and gapless rings. With a balance job it should come down to about $1000 but that doesn't include a fly wheel.
Guest iskone
I think I just misread. I reread the post and he said you can't use a 8" balancer. I'm not that stupid after all. What size do I use then?
Guest iskone
I talked with a guy at http://www.storkerkits.com. He told that the LT1 doesn't use a balancer at all instead it uses the stock hub. The kit they sell for the LT1 has 6.0" rods and forged pistons that make a 10.34cr. I think that I still might go with the the Power House kit if the machine shop tells me it's a go. So if you don't know crap about the LT1 and storking it give these guys a call. They were a big help
