Being from Australia, i obviously won't be able to use much information on this site (even though i'm coming to live for a year in 2003) cause we are right hand drive. So if anyone can help me with a chevy V8 for an Australian 240 or 260z it would be much appreciated. God some of you guys have some mad looking cars though hail.gif (especially Terry Oxandales')

Don't know how helpful this will be, but there used to be a company in Braeside that was doing GTO replicas with V8s. I met them on a business trip several years ago. If they are still around, they might have some helpful hints.

 

The company was called Retro Sports Car Company, Factory 2. 1-7 Canterbury Road, Braeside Melbourne Vitoria 3195. Their phone was (03) 9587-6643.

 

As I remember, their main line of business was custom boats. I would be surprised if the above number was still active, but you might want to take a little drive down that way.

Excuse my ignorance, but why is that a problem? If you live south of the equator, just turn your monitor upside down. :D

 

Seriously, I thought that the only difference in RHD cars would be that some of the interior parts are mirror images, like the dashboard, A/C evaporator box, steering rack, etc. The driveline stays basically the same, doesn't it? Or does the engine get offset a few inches to the left instead of the right?

 

We've got other members in Europe and Japan as well as others in Australia, so don't feel like you're the only RHD chap here. Welcome to the group!

It is not really a problem, RPMS. i just wouldn't be able to use the mechanics that you guys used. And with a RHD for some reason it isn't just a straight out turn everything around of a LHD.but if there is a part of Hybridz that has listings for places i could use in Australia could someone please tell me about them.

hey man

 

so whats the problem you don't know a place to do the conversion...

 

look at the yellow pages, and go to automotive, look at engine fitting specialists, most of these places will do a conversion for you at a resemnable price

 

lately i've been thinking of using the Holden VN 5ltr engine, is a 308, with alloy heads, has 165kw stock, and is fuel injected... and can be got from the wreckers for under 2000 with a 5spd box,

 

would be a good swap, or looking at the trading post plenty of 350z going for sale all the time, with 3-400hp most freashly rebuilt...

 

just ring a few places and see what happens...

Have you ever thought about trying to drop one of those inline 6 Hemi's? I dont think anyone has tried it. Mopar, in their infinate wisdom, never produced the I6 Hemi stateside so I know no one here has one. malebitchslap.gif

I'm with you zspeed. Holden Donk would be a great swap. I thinks its lighter then the ford 302 with ali heads.

 

Socket- I have a right hand drive 260 2+2 with sbc and a supra 5 speed. I bought it as it is but I might be able to help.

dear sad little australian i have a 6.6 litre chev in my 71 240Z, it was easy to do and cost about $6000 AUS including rebiuld ( i was lucky to pick up a turbo 400 g/box in murray bridge for $150 ) I am currently looking at turbo charging or doing nitro we will see

Guys, I was thinking about buying the JTR manual but in my excitement I forgot that the manual would be written for LHD cars :lol::bonk:

 

Sooo, my question would be what kind of differences can I expect, am I wasting my money on the JTR manual (yes I know I know, it's the bible) and especially the JTR kit? Please help...

i bought the book, i'm in melbourne, i don't have a v8 Z, i have a stocker, but its really good reading.

 

it doesn't really have much differance from LHD to RHD, only the steering clearance, which isn't a issue, if you use some close headers, which are readily availible,

 

i got the book for around AUS$85 and worth it... I'm going Rb or L28 turbo but its still worth having..
