2many280s
Check all the bushings and everywhere that the rear suspension connects to the body. One of my cars started doing that recently and I had no idea what was causing it until I had it jacked up changing the brake pads one day. I got to looking around while I had the rear wheels off and the car jacked up and almost every peice of rubber in the back was crushed, cracked, or flat out gone. I still haven't gotten around to replacing it all yet so I'm not sure if thats what is causing it or not. But I do remember back in my 4x4 mudding days, that anything you could do to keep the rear from twisting(traction bars,4-link...etc) would help with wheel hop. And if that logic holds true in an independant suspension also, then that would be my first guess.
Guest ON3GO
the car has all new energy suspension bushing so that cant be it. the wheels itself isnt hopping, its the car. thanks Mike
zxgts-4
Hi Mike, Check the universals on all 3 driveshafts and while rear wheels are off the ground , spin the wheels separately by hand to see if diff gears are alright. Neil
CruxGNZ
the car has all new energy suspension bushing so that cant be it.the wheels itself isnt hopping' date=' its the car. thanks Mike[/quote'] Your post title and quote here make me confused . Are you sure that you are not feeling clutch chatter? Or possibly you broke a tooth off in your differential, but you would hear a clunking sound from the rear. Can you be more specific with what's happening? !M!
Guest ON3GO
ok if you ease off the clutch to start rolling the car starts HOPPING, like bad. feels like as if your in a car and the person is driving and that person cant drive stick very well, and the car feels like its bucking and about to stall out. i cant explain it any better then i have really. i know its not a clutch chatter, i really dont hear a sound besides the banging the car is doing when its shaking like mad. Guest ON3GO
and it really only does it when your start rolling from a dead stop. i havent noticed it when shifting to 2nd or 3rd and so on.. mike
CruxGNZ
It sounds like bad clutch chatter combined with original engine mounts and trans mounts. Your drivetrain is probably rocking around with the chatter making the sounds you are hearing. Clutch chatter is less noticable in the higher gears. Or, you are dropping a cylinder while taking off? !M!
Guest ON3GO
damn, i was hoping it wasnt anything big.. i kinda thought it could have been the clutch as i thought it was going out.. damn man this sucks. Mike
CruxGNZ
Well, it doesn't cost you anything to pull it apart and check it out. Resurface the flywheel if needed (most likely) and check the clutch out. While you're in there, replace the throwout bearing. I don't think your $32 in your checking account is going to cover the costs, but don't you have access to a shop/school where you can resurface the flywheel? Good luck Mike. !M! Guest ON3GO
Matt the school doesnt have anything for flywheels, kinda gay but oh wheel. i did find a flywheel/clutch kit for 100 bucks and i think it was 30 bucks for the bearing. im just gonna drive the car around untill it just wont move anymore. i cant afford it right now, and if i do the clutch i want to re-build the tranny, which i can do but im gonna wanna buy new blocker rings and etc etc so that will cost money. so i guess i can wait. it cant hurt anything if i drive it till the clutch is just done for. mike
SportZ2
my truck does the same thing in reverse. I have to let the clutch all the way out, not ease it out. I have a HD clutch and have no probelms any other time. If I let the clutch out fast there is no clatter and hopping and it runs smooth. Guest ON3GO
yeah Art if i just let the clutch out easy with no gas applied then its fine and the car rolls smooth, but if i apply some gas while letting the clutch out the car shakes BAD. mike
zxgts-4
Hi Mike Check you dont have broken or loose trans or engine mounts which could also cause low speed vibration, just another possibility. Neil
280zrice
SOUNDS LIKE A BROKEN GEAR OR TOOTH IN THE REAR END. , AT LOW MPH OR FROM STANDING , JUST ROLL YOUR VEHICLE IN 4TH OR LIFT THE REAR AND SPIN THE WHEELS YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO HEAR THE CLUNKING NOISE
