Guest 570Z
Hey guys! I'm new here, but it looks like I'll be glad to be here Well, I've got a bit of a problem. I was cruisin' along in my Z (Chevy v8) and i accidentally slid it on gravel and smacked a curb real hard, and I tweaked my entire rear suspension real bad. I didn't hit it hard enough to bend the frame, or dent the rim. The car doesn't wear the tires funny either, but I was contemplating whether a 75-78 280Z rear setup would fit in my 240Z. Its a 1973, and I'd like to pu tin the rear suspension and differential-back, ya know, the R-200. I'm gonna need one real soon, and I may as well switch it all out. So what I need to know is, will the back part of a 280Z bolt in, or did they change al the mounts and stuff? Thanks guys!
Guest JAMIE T
Your in luck! It's a bolt in! Use the 240Z strut assemblies though. The 280 strut assemblies will jack your car way up.
blueovalz
I sounds like you didn't hurt the suspension then. As far as your question goes, I believe all the suspension pieces from any Z will swap between any other Z. The 280 strut tubes will be a tiny bit larger in diameter, but arms, and bushings will remain the same. The upper strut spacer rubbers (can't think of a more correct name here) are taller on the 280s I believe, and the spring rates are a bit higher on the 280. But in regards to actually bolting the pieces in; no problem. The R200 swap will require a 280 mustache bar (and a 280 front mount?). It's been soooooo long since I did this, surely better info will follow.
