Guest Anonymous
Grumpy, I know you know your engine stuff so well, I was looking for some advice. I want to twin turbo my small block in my 82zx. Right now I'm running a stock crate engine out of a 78 chevy pick up. I bought it new from gm. I then installed Holley system max 2 alum heads (Part number 300-569, CC chamber is 69cc, Eshaust runner volume is 64cc, Eshaust valve diameter is 1.6, Intake is 2.02) as well as a magnum comp 270 cam. The block is still stock, and it's a four bolt main. What I was wondering it three fold 1) What intake would you recommend for this system. I'm going to run a aftermarket fuel managment system. 2) What type of piston am I going to need to put in so that I can lower my compression back down to around 8.1 so that the engine will work good with the turbo setup? 3) Any other mods you would recomend while my engine is in the shop to have them put in while it's torn apart, or if I end up doing it myself, what would you recomend I put in, ie rods, crank, rings, etc. I just wanted to hear what you say so that way I can go into the machine shop with an idea so that I know they aren't trying to screw me over, or make me buy stuff I really don't need. Thanks a million.
grumpyvette
talk to these guys, they have been working more with turbo sbc engines than I have and can give you better advise, hey I always try to learn from other KNOWLEGEABLE ENGINE BUILDERs or at least talk to the guys driveing cars like I intend to build before building a new engine, it saves money in the long run. each guy will give slightly differant info but at least youll get mostly good info! the main things you need to keep in mind is youll need a super effective cooling system, a free flowing exhaust, other things to do are use large intake ports, a cam DESIGNED for TURBO USE and if your useing much boost youll need an intercooler and high octane fuel plus head studs, main cap studs and possiably (o) ring the block and use copper head gaskets http://www.montygwilliams.com/ http://www.grapeaperacing.com/GrapeApeRacing/ http://zdriver.com/members/scottiegnz/scotties240zt.htm http://www.skulte.com/turbo.html http://www.turbonation.com/ http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m0BUW/9_39/56220479/p1/article.jhtml
