Guest tony78_280z
Perhaps I lucked into the right combo of timing and fuel pressure. But I took my holley off and put the quad back on (still ran like crap) then I adjusted the timing (from 4 to 8) and lowered the fuel pressure. And suddenly it runs better than I have ever gotten it to. SO someone explain to me how the timing changes the profile of the motor. When it's advanced or retarded what exactly changes in the performance of the motor. Advanced ignites sooner so then ...? Cause I don't understand. AND, My timing was of by 4o how much of a change is that gonna make? Will it make it sputter and backfire and have no power? Will it make the motor stall on sudden thottle? OR was my problem fuel pressure? OR was it a combo? Someone tell me how I fixed it and if I'm on the right track with my problem? Thanks -T
GAZRNR
The first thing I would do is verify that you have a stable 6-7 PSI of fuel pressure at the carb. Your float needles can't take more than that. Then make sure your firing order is correct (no miss connected plug wires) verify that you have the correct spark plugs gapped at 45 thousandst and verify that none of spark plugs are fouled. Then start the motor and give it 10-12 degrees timing, set your idle & have fun.
