Guest z1 performance
What does everyone recommend for a 160 thermostat for the L28T? I have a generic parts store one, but it seems to open veeeerrrryyyy slowly. Thanks!
lilj
i'm using a failsafe 180, and my car stays around 175 all the time. i'm thinkin about getting a 190, but who knows.. it works good as is. -jon
Guest bastaad525
actually people usually recommend AGAINST using the 160... they feel it will allow the engine to run TOO cool much of the time and may prevent the EFI from ever entering it's "fully warmed up" mode (closed loop, open loop? I always forget). EFI is programmed to enter this mode at 180*... 160* tstat will have you running rich all the time. At the same time, a colder thermostat will NOT help deal with overheating... when a motor is overheating the tstat is supposed to be fully open either way... so eitehr a 160 or a 180, if you're running 200+ degrees, either one is wide open and makes no difference at that point. One thing that I see recommended a lot is to use a Nissan tstat, some feel the aftermarket auto parts store ones are not too reliable, accurate, and dont flow well. Guest z1 performance
I have fully programmable ecu, and I run open loop all the time, so no concern there. we flushed the coolant system and put a new Nissan 180 in the car, its a bit better now....at idle she runs a tad over the half mark if left there, not sure if I need be concerned about it or not to be honest. The car rarely gets driven, since I went a bit too hardcore during the build up....gotta be in the right mood to drive it! I am going to go into the ecu tomorrow to make sure the fan is kicking on when it should Adam
