Sensor warning light on=after day at mechanics!

HI

I have an 83 280ZXT, 5 speed, custom exhaust (with sensor present), I/C, etc, which supposedly turned on the EGR "sensor" light on the dash, supposedly when the mechanic started it. It has 52.020 miles, and the mechanic said there should be a reset switch, that this sensor comes on automatically at mileage intervals.

1. Is he right about intervals, so I shouldn't think they F&*$'d anything up? Is 50K about right?

2. If it's user resetable, can someone tell me where to find it?

3. If he messed it up, what could that light be saying is awry? They did work on wiring underhood, and an oil change, but I don't think they played with the oxy sensor! One never knows, though...

Thanks

John

Hi John - I have an '83 ZXT and have owned it for 4years now, in dealing with fuel injected ZXs, I have never heard of the O2 sensor light coming on at any type of interval whatsoever.

Furthermore I do not see how an IC or new exhaust install can throw the sensor light.

For resetting the light, have you tried disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then re-connecting?

There are some other great ZXT owners (Afshin, Cody) on here that can also add some additional comments.

Hope that helps - Yasin

That warning light runs directly through a switch built into the speedometer. It has nothing to do with how the engine is running. Three of the zx's I've had still had the light on when I purchased them and all I had to do was disconnect the green with yellow stripe wire coming from the black junction block above the fuse box in the car. It is located behind the floor light on the passenger's side and about three or four inches to the left of the junction block. You will see a clear bullet connector that can be disconnected. :)
