Guest butlersZ
Hey Guys, I was wondering, has anyone ever built thier own or used a sheet metal intake? I have been searching on the net looking at different homemade intakes. Some of them are nice and some of them are crappy but I guess whatever works. Anyway has anyone on this board had experience with fabricating thier own intake for the SBC? I know there are several people who have made custom intakes for their L6, but I have not seen any for SBC. I know there is some benefits to making your own intake, but is the cost and trouble of doing it worth the payoff?
grumpyvette
Ive built well over a dozen custom sheet metal intakes and IF you understand the relationship between the runner length and cross sectional area , and the plenum volume necessary you can build a good working intake designed to operate in a specific rpm range and on a specific displacement at a specfic RPM range that will work significantly better than most commercial intakes ON YOUR PARTICULAR COMBO but youll need access to a TIG welder and PLENTY OF SPARE time It could easily take a full week to do the job correctly (build one) for just one intake (engine combo AFTER you do all the MATH)
