Guest PROJECTRB240SX
DOES IMPALA AND CAPRICE LT1 ENGINE USE THE SAME MOUNTS? I'M WONDERING BECAUSE I CAN GET THESE FOR PRETTY CHEAP AND WAS WONDERING IF I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE ADDED HASSLE OF TRYING TO GET IT TO FIT DIFFERENTLY? Tim240z
Same thing...same block as other LT1s.....
Guest PROJECTRB240SX
Do you happen to know if they are 2 bolt mains or 4? The GM Parts Dealer for my company says 2-bolt.
Guest PROJECTRB240SX
Also will the lt4 conversion work on the impala or caprice engines?
Tim240z
Likely 2 bolt. As for the LT4 conversion, I don't see why it wouldn't work, but it's a crap load of $$$ for the conversion parts for very little gain. Get a set of aftermarket heads (or a good port job on your heads), a good Crane or Comps cam, port your intake and get a bigger throttle body, and get a good dyno tune. Also, remember, the Caprice also came out with the L99 (4.3 liter LT1). They look almost identical, except for the 4.3 stamp on the rear of the block Tim
Guest PROJECTRB240SX
Yeah these are LT1 motors... So over 100hp/ft-lbs is little gain? What would your idea of a good setup for street use be? I want at least 400hp and 400ft-lbs of torque, the power band needs to be pretty wide, and its needs to get good fuel economy..... from every dyno sheet I've seen with the LT4 conversion, Block Hugger Headers, 2.5" exhaust, 30lb injectors and 58mm TB it was doing everything I would ask of it. I'm also going to do a 383 Stroker with this motor as most likely I'll have to freshen up the lower end a bit anyway.... some of them have decent mileage to them. Also would I have to modify anything to get the A/C compressor to fit?
Tim240z
Drop Mike a PM. He ran a pretty highly modded LT1 in his Z, and then went LS1. His user name is MAS280..... Tim
