Guest butlersZ
Ok, been considering removing the stock hood latch mechanism on the hood and firewall. Should I cut it out and grind it smooth or drill out the spot welds and fill(pertaining to firewall part)? Also are there any other means of securing the hood besides drilling holes in corners and using hood pins? I guess I'm looking for something a little more discreet and cleaner than the bulky stock latch. Anyone have any pics of thier latch mods? Tim240z
You can carefully drill out the spot welds and not go through the firewall, so you will not have to fill any holes (maybe just smooth them out a bit). I smoothed out my entire firewall, then triangulated my strut brace and connected my hood latch to that. Take some very good measuremens of EXACTLY where the latch mechanism sits OEM before cutting it off....it will make life a lot easier when you go back to install it again. Dan Juday
There's always the JTR latch. But you probably have already seen that. If not here it is.
Guest butlersZ
I just don't want to use the stock latch period. Not any part of it, I know it works but I would like to upgrade to something different, maybe an electronic latch of some sort with a hidden mechanical override or something just in case the battery goes dead. Was thinking about something to the effect of a trunk latch. Hmmm.....
