Guest JerameyFranklin
heres the dilemma. I've just recently acquired this one of a kind 76 Hybrid 280 Z. It runs wonderfully...that is, if i can get it going. It seems that every time i try to start it up, it just clicks, and doesnt even try to turn over. The only way i can get it to run is if I pop the clutch, but i would, however much rather just start it up....... Help....is it the starter perhaps???? datsunlover
By 'pop' the clutch I assume you mean bump start.. and it runs fine after that? Id say the starter has problems, (worn solenoid/contacts inside the startor) or it is a bad conection somewhere in the starting circuit.. I'd suspect a bad ground.. Guest JerameyFranklin
yessir a bump start is what i mean. I had a feeling that, that was what it was but wasnt completely sure. Plus, i didnt want to spend any xtra money for something that didnt need to be replaced.
Guest butlersZ
What I would do first is run a hot wire from the battery straight to the starter solenoid and see if the starter bumps and turns the engine over. If it doesn't turn then it's a problem with the starter. If it turns then I would check the grounding on the car and then proceed to the ignition switch and starter relay(if one is present). Make sure the ignition switch is getting power. Just use a simple test light or multimeter to check connections. Hope this helps.
