zero
I need to get my horn working very quickly so i can get the car inspected and keep it on the road. Here's the deal. When I bought the car it didnt have the actual horn, so I replaced it and it worked fine. After a while something happened and my horn no longer works. It isnt the relay as I have bought two, the fuse is fine, and I took out the horn button and rubbed the wire on a ground and nothing happened so it isnt the button. Also the little connector on the back of the steering wheel mount seems to have good contact so i dont think that is the problem. However if I use a screwdriver to connect the three ( or maybe just outer two) prongs on the relay, the horn sounds. At this point, I dont really know what could be the problem. If someone out there knows what it could be please let me know. If not could someone direct me as to how I would go about making a completely new and independent circuit for the horn that would work at least temporarily. thanks alot. pete280z
I just finished sorting out some horn troubles in my car. My problem was that the horn had been re-wired using the brakelight circuit. Horn worked fine, but brakelights were a different story... You didn't mention what year your Z is, so I'm not sure if anything I did would apply. Sounds like it's time to grab a wiring schematic and a multitester. Work from where you know it works (relay) toward the horn button. Keep your fingers crossed that you don't have to pull the dash out to repair the broken circuit. If it's just a matter of passing inspection in a hurry, why not run a button directly off the relay? Sure, it won't be done "right", but it should get you a pass while you figure out what broke.
zero
I thought about that, and actually tried it, but apparantly I used too thing gauge wire and it would just burn throughwhen i pressed the button, I might try something thicker and actually soldering it in place rather than holding it there with my finger....not fun. zero
well, what I ended up doing was soldering a wire where the stock wire connects to the little flexible brass thing that touches the back of the wheel mount, and just connecting that wire to one of the prongs on the relay, kinda bypassing the wiring harness. It isnt the best way to do it, but it works.
