ToplessZ
Ok I needed to jump my battery in my 82 zxt and I looked at it and the red wire is going to the negative and the black wire is going to the positive side of the battery? Its been like this for a long time before I got the car. Im afraid to hook it up to my other car for a jump. Whats the story guys?

VRJoe
Sounds goofy, but I'll bet somebody put in new cables and just bought one that would fit. My '77 280Z had both black cables ( + and - ) and both had RED leads coming off the connector. I almost hooked them up backwards (car had no battery in it when I bought it) due to the red wire, but dropped the wrench and noticed I was hooking the Ground lead to the + battery terminal. Lucky time to drop a wrench. Needless to say the color codes will be correct when the LT1 is wired up soon. Of coures the RED + lead starts at the back and runs all the way to the starter ( I moved the battery to the back). Oh yea, back to your question, If the - goes to ground ingore the fact that's it's RED. Somebody just used the wrong color wire. If the + goes to the starter ignore that it's BLACK. Better yet, if you can, pull the wires and swap them so the color code is correct. - Joe
Guest Zachb55
well your situation obviously cant be too bad, i mean, your car runs right? its not a sitting electrical fire is it? so if everything checks out then you just connect the positive side of the boost battery to the positive on the draw battery and so forth, pay no attention to the wires... if the negative side of your battery was connected to the starter then your starter would spin backwards, right? so if your car runs then this must not be so. -Zach
