Z-31 O2 sensor?????

a friend of mine has recently purchased an 86 n/a, and upon doing the routine changes of timing belt, waterpump, hoses, and o2 sensor we made the discovery that this motor has a different sensor and wire harness than the replacement listed in the parts manuals, this is also a different setup than on my father's '87 n/a.

we have been told by a fellow enthusiast that this is a j-spec setup wich would require ordering parts from overseas.

this sensor is aprox 3" long and about half inch or less in diameter (smaller than the replacement)

anybody's help is greatly appriciated in finding out if this is a j-spec setup and what the differences might be between the 2.

thnx

well actually that's the next planed stop as soon as the rain stops and it dries a little. we where just wondering if anyone knew what any other differences might be... I know the alternator is also in a different location than my father's car but I don't know if that's just cause it's a different year or if it's from a different motor configuration.

the size changes from ECU to ECU an getting the right O2 sensor is pretty important...or the car won't run right...as for the alternator being on the wrong side...it can be mounted on the drivers (normally NA) or passenger side (typical on turbo)

also..kick whoever told you that stuff about having a JDM motor in it. everything the same on the block and if it's your accessories....so its the same parts that fit

  • 2 weeks later...

I went to the parts store and looked at the Bosch book and the 87 Turbo O2 sensor is different, it whould fit the hole it looks like but the connector is the wrong one. As for thought the dealler, the only one who could tell me anything is one in Texas for a rather high price. Also the element still heats but i dont know if the unit needs replaced or not.

But as for the car it is not running good at all, it wont go above 3,000-3,500 sometimes and has no power or gas mileage.
