EZDUZIT
OK guys before any of you write back and say do a search, I have and have only got post from people who have already done the swap, not how! So with that said, I am helping my little brother with his 74 260Z. His car needs a complete brake job, which is the perfect opertunity to upgrade. I have read about putting the Toyota front calipers on these cars, however you can use two different ones depending on which rotor you use. I would like to hear from people who have used both methods, meaning the thin one piece or the 300 vented rotors. Also we would like to put the disc on the rear. I know you can get the first gen Maxima brackets and mount the rear 280ZX calipers and rotors, but can you not just swap everything off of a 280ZX on the rear? The master cylinder will it be strong enough or would the ZX have a better one? I think if someone who knows took the time to explain this and made it a sticky it would benifit everyone. No one would ask anymore and no one would have to reply Thanks for any help.
innerware
I am sure that searching will get you a ton of hits. I just ordered the kit from Modernmotorsport for the front. It is the 300zx rotor and adapter plus pads and brake lines. From what I have heard the stock master cylinder will be good enough but some upgrade. If you do the back too then a proportioning valve is usually used to help balance everything out. I don't think the 280zx rear brakes will just swap on. Would be popular if it was easy. There are a lot of brake gurus here, me not being one of them. Search a little and then pm some of the big knowlegable guys. Good luck oh and the larger rotors (300zx) is the way to go for better braking then to just upgrade the calipers. I will be doing the swap soon enough so maybe I can help with the process then. Oh and check out this website of one of the members: http://alteredz.com/ He has an awesome site with good pictures.
