Guest butlersZ
Ok, I am wanting to use one 20Amp rated switch to turn on two bosch 30Amp relays, Is this possible without burning up the switch? While the relays are hooked up independently from eachother, I wanted to just use "T-taps" to connect both relays together on the switch side. Does this make sense? Dan Juday
Not a problem. The rating on the relay refers to the capacity of the contacks, not the current required to power the coil. Relays use very little current to operate. That's why we use them.
2126
butlersZ, Dan is correct about the relays. Relays are nothing more than a switch! A small amount of current is required to activate the contacts (an electromagnetic coil physically closes contacts to complete a circuit) and the closed contacts carry the high current to what ever device you are operating. Basically, relays keep high current out of the drivers compartment (safety) and likewise reduces the amount of wire (smaller gauge wire) needed for a system. Hope this helps further explain relays! Guest 2slo4u
You could turn on approximately 40 standard 30amp auto. relays with that 20 amp switch.
Guest butlersZ
40 with one switch Now I figured one or two relays with one switch but damn, 40!!! Well I guess that definitely answers my question, thanks guys.
