datsun327 Posted September 17, 2004 Share Posted September 17, 2004 im intalling a cam onto my sbc. is the timing chain suppose to be tight and if so how tight.also when i put the gears on should the timing dots be lined up with one another? hope this was clear enough for ya as in descripsion. 80LS1T Posted September 18, 2004 Share Posted September 18, 2004 Yes you want the chain to be tight. The to timing marks on the sprockets should face each other. So the cams timing mark would be at the 6 o'clock position and the crankshafts timing mark would be at 12 o'clock. It can be tricky getting the chain on and have them line up but it is possible.
