Guest AShout4U
Alright I have a 1979 280ZX coupe NA 5 speed with power steering, power windows, power mirrors right. I looked underneath and i'm about 99 percent sure thats an R200 diff under there. Its stout as to how long and small the R180 is. But my car isnt a GL under the VIN number, theres no J. How can I be sure? Is there any way I can tell from the numbers stamped on the diff? I think it was like 347 or something and then the little hamburger thing was there. Does anyone know how I can check for sure? Everywhere i've looked my car "shouldnt" have an R200. Well thanks for the help.

RB26powered74zcar
The pics above should make idenifing the difference between the two without a doubt, but one more way makes it easy also... Look at the side area where the halfshaft inserts into the diff, the R-180 will have a bolt on cover (oil seal area) with 6 or 8 bolts. The R-200 will never have this. If you look at each halfshaft, toward the diff, and see bolts on the diff itself, (not the halfshaft) its not a R-200... 8)
