Guest 92SE-R
Hi, I am doing some research for a future 240Z project and found little information on what is involved with swapping in a SR20DET motor into the 240Z. What motor mounts specifically did you guys use to mount this motor? What driveshaft? What axles? What rear end? Any help would be greatly appreciated. What is involved with the wiring. What engine management did you guys use? I am really familiar with the SR20 series of motors. I have a 92 SE-R that formerly had a SR20DE(T) motor in there. Thanks! Dead Roman
the search button is constantly heralded as the solution to all your problems round here.
Guest 92SE-R
Thanks but I've already tried that. All the posts don't mention what motor mounts they used. Why don't you try searching? Maybe you'll find something I didn't find. Terrin
auxilary
http://www.sr240z.com/ rear end - 280z. driveshaft? custom fabrication. motormounts? custom fabrication. axles? 280z. or if you want to use cv axles, 280zx w/ adapters from http://www.modern-motorsports.com
Guest 92SE-R
Ahh Auxiliary. Thanks. Did you do this? Are you the same guy from ClubSI.com? Terrin
auxilary
negative. as far as more info goes, 280z cars (for the most part) had r200 differentials, stock IRS. these are almost a direct bolt in into a 240z (requires different mustache bar and flip the front diff. mount 180*). They're 200mm ring gear, or 7.9" rear end. If you don't mind a pegleg, it's a cheap beefy rear diff that'll hold out to about 350 ft lbs of torque. The differential won't go first, but the halfshafts will. You shouldn't have too much of an issue with off-line torque since it's a turbo 2 liter, and you won't have the snapping reaction of 350ft lbs from something like an sbc. You may want to check out modern motorsports link above for pricing and info on CV axle conversion, and look around for an 88-89 300zx turbo rear diff (3.7 geared clutch limited slip). Hugh
Well, if you put a turbo on it like the one pictured there, it WILL make 350ft/lbs of torque and snap the axles. My motor peaked at 362 ft/lbs with a smaller compressor than the one there. It also layed waste to 180sx driveline parts which are much stronger than the Z. If you're planning something pretty much stock, then it will be fine. If you get carried away, it won't. I don't want you SBC guys getting confused and thinking the SR20DET is a weakling. Forced induction goes a long way on this motor. Torque is on par with horsepower in the 350-400hp range. It's not til you go past 400 that you will see a large difference in torque and horsepower peaks. Drag launching the car properly requires putting the engine into its torque band... so if you make 350ft/lbs at 6000 instead of 3000rpm , it will still break parts. Oh, and the search engine here returned nothing useful in my SR swap research either. It actually turned up a lot of threads where people said "Search"... but no real info. Guest 92SE-R
Shh....I want those V8 guys to keep thinking the SR20 is a weakling. Hahaha. Just ask some of the V8 guys in San Diego. They felt the wrath of my shitbox. Terrin

Guest 92SE-R
Can you email me some pictures of the custom motor mounts you made? Can you also post any other pictures you have of the swap? Thanks. Terrin

Alex thanks for spreadin the word man Do you think that a 86' Nissan 300 zx rear end work? I am not out for ridiculous speed and I am not worried about turbo gauges. Do they have a naturally aspirated horn throttle body setup? Also does the S13 tranny gear shifter line up with the existing hole?
